GAME DESCRIPTIONS:

Role Playing Game
Cthulhu Invictus
Cthulhu for Charity: The Seventh Turn
21 years old or higher
Cooperative, Roleplaying Heavy, Investigation Heavy, Plot Heavy, Dark
7 players
Osk,MinionOfCthulhu

Arrius Lurco came home, but was never really the same. Kidnapped, missing for weeks and then found wandering aimlessly in the wilds of Crete, the wealthy patrician tried to resume his normal routine. Slowly he withdrew from life, from family, and those he loved. His behavior grew ever more erratic, which is hard to hide when you own a controlling interest in one of the empire’s four chariot racing factions. Our story begins as Arrius Melito, Lurco’s youngest son, hires the investigators to learn the truth of what is going on with his father before it’s too late.

But the truth is sometimes a very dangerous thing and it may already be too late. The Cthulhu Mythos never likes being drawn into the light nor does it relinquish its prey easily; this was as true in ancient Rome as is it today.

Join me, Oscar Rios, for a special presentation of The Seventh Turn – Part One of The Legacy of Arrius Lurco. This is the first published campaign for the Cthulhu Invictus setting, brought to you by Miskatonic River Press and written by yours truly. We’ll start with a short session of character generation and move onto the entire scenario.

It’s time to put on make up, it’s time to dress up right, it’s time to meet the Muppets on the Muppet Show tonight!

Fresh from my most viewed month of blogging in three years and featured on Muppet fansite ‘The Muppet Mindset’ comes my homebrew game of singing chickens, exploding pigs and being able to eat the other characters!

It’s a Muppet Role Playing Game and the goal is to complete a successful episode of The Muppet Show. Players will each choose three of their favorite Muppets characters and create one original Muppet in an attempt to gain Applause from the rest of the group. Applause are like instantly spendable experience point that turn into Star Power! With Star Power you can improve your Shticks, prevent them from weakening and even ‘Steal the Show’!

And who is our very special guest star? Come play and find out! It may just be related to the Video Game Theme!

The Burning Wheel
DOOM!
13 years old or higher
Cooperative, Combat Heavy, Lethal, Realistic, Tactical

Gronti

You had the easiest gigs in the Marines – babysitting one of the most powerful wizards in the land and his apprentices as they ran magical experiments high up in his floating island. But all that changed when the fortress below vanished and your unit raced up in the airship to investigate.

You were left outside while your Captain and unit charged in. For hours, the only noises you heard were screams of agony and inhuman growls. But now it’s quiet and you’re alone. Too bad the Captain took with him the amulet that powered the airship. Seems like the only way home is to go inside and fetch it. For a badass Marine such as yourself, this should be a piece of cake.

Burning DOOM will attempt to create the awesomeness of the original DOOM video game, but with a fantasy twist. It won’t be pure BW, but it will be pure fun. No experience is necessary.

The various heroes of the Princesses respective Kingdoms have not been heard from in some time… At first you generally figured that they had just gone to the wrong castle again, but usually there’s at least some sign of unrest in the local villainy when that happens. Heroes get lost, and villains get grouchy when they come invade — Men, never asking for directions. But affairs of state can wait for later. Now it’s time for cake!

Are you brave enough and strong enough to answer the call and rid Ravensburg of this evil once and for all?

It’s the mid 90s, and you are hiring monsters to create the perfect dungeon and become the most nefarious of them all. The Sword Merchants: Playtest
The Sword Merchants
13 years old or higher

IngredientX

Note: This is a playtest of an unpublished board game.

Four races stand on the brink of war. After years of failed peace negotiations, the Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, and Kobolds stand ready to fight.

Which is great news for you. Because you’ll be selling them their weapons.

The Sword Merchants is a heavy economic game set in a fantasy land, where players manufacture four different weapons and sell them to four different races. Demand for each type of weapon will differ throughout the game, but a well-crafted weapon will last longer. The more weapons that are sold to a particular region, the more likely that region will go to war.

The game takes about 120 minutes to play. The player who makes the most money at the end of the game wins.

The players take their heroic characters, gear them out, skill them up and then face off against an Overlord intent on killing them before they can complete their quest. Like Wizardry or Dungeon Siege but on a tabletop covered in miniatures and dice. You’ll be working together with your fellow players to defeat the Overlord’s nefarious plan…or die trying. Rules will be explained, no experience necessary.

It was just another day for you and your mercenary team on Omega. Things had been slow lately and so had the work. That’s when the call came from a professional acquaintance. Apparently there was someone important on the lawless station. The details were sparse but a message went out all over the network. Whoever brought this guy in would be paid one million credits to split however they wanted. The pay was too good to pass up but the risks were obvious. Anyone worth their gun would be in on this. Now it’s a race against the clock and half the station as you hunt your quarry down by whatever means necessary. This game is a mix of roleplaying, combat, and investigation though depending on the players actions any of those three can be a bit heavier then the others.

Players will take on the role of the Knights Architectural as they strive to keep those houses of wood, glass, and stone bird-free.

Note: this game is a setting-hack of Ben Lehman’s award-winning tragic fairy-tale RPG Polaris. It is a GM-less game and as such players will rotate between protagonist pig roles, antagonist bird roles, and support roles.

Fiasco is a game about ordinary people with powerful ambition and poor impulse control. There will be big dreams and flawed execution. It won’t go well for them, to put it mildly, and in the end it will probably all go south in a glorious heap of jealousy, murder, and recrimination.

Fiasco is an extremely rules-light game. Players will create a fiasco dripping with ambition, revenge, and poorly thought-out plans, and then hilarity and tragedy (which is just a form of hilarity), will ensue. Ever seen a Coen Brothers movie? Well then, you know what’s going to go down.

http://wordplay1510.wordpress.com/recess-mooks-creed-ii/

How much fun the Assassin’s Creed II videogame can be for the player: the chance to be a near-invincible killer, master of superhuman combat maneuvers and Leonard da Vinci’s clockpunk weapons. Not so much fun for the mooks and goons who have to face you, though…

A game from the other side of the screen, recreating life – and death – for the poor bastards there to make the hero look good. You’ll have to be lucky, you’ll have to be smart, you’ll probably die (indeed, maybe several times), but that doesn’t matter. Because there’s always the refresh at the end of the scene, and you might even be able to gain a little individuality, to become more than just one more identikit target for the assassin. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll be the ones to bring that smug superhero down.

Think Assassin’s Creed II, using the fast, simple Wordplay rules, with more than a nodding homage to Paranoia. Start as one of the unvariegated mooks: an Agile Guard, maybe, or a Borgia Messenger. Bit by bit, whether through surviving or dying, you begin to acquire a personality, maybe some personal ambitions, even rivalries or relationships with the other players. Who knows, maybe becoming a person in your own right will end up being even more important than stopping that damn assassin?

Of course, meanwhile you can expect all the violence, puzzles, plots, set pieces and sumptuous Renaissance Italian backdrops that a game like this demands! A ‘daVinciPunk’ adventure for 2-6 players using the neat and fun Wordplay rules and requiring no prior knowledge of Renaissance Italy in the 1500s – or indeed Assassin’s Creed. Characters will be start as very basic pre-gens and the players will develop, customize and humanize them as the game progresses.

In Small World, players vie for conquest and control of a world that is simply too small to accommodate them all.

Small World is inhabited by a zany cast of characters such as dwarves, wizards, amazons, giants, orcs, and even humans, who use their troops to occupy territory and conquer adjacent lands in order to push the other races off the face of the earth.

Picking the right combination from the 14 different fantasy races and 20 unique special powers, players rush to expand their empires – often at the expense of weaker neighbors. Yet they must also know when to push their own over-extended civilization into decline and ride a new one to victory!
